Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Almost To 300 Million
By Aaron (7/18/06)
As I mentioned before in my article about Pirates' opening weekend, this
could become another Titanic. And I think I may be right.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl grossed 305 million total and is #21 in the
highest grossing movies of all time. That took it around 90-110 days. But the Pirates' sequel has only been out
for 12 days and is already only 32 mil from its successor's TOTAL gross. By Friday I expect this film to crack the 300
mil mark and break the record for the fastest to 300 mil. The current record is set by Star Wars Episode III: Revenge
of the Sith (17 days). If my prediction is correct, Pirates' would break the 300 mil mark on Friday sometime around
that, meaning that it would take it 15 or 16 days!
It broke the record for the fastest to 100 million (2 days), the fastest to 200 million (8 days; tie
with Shrek 2), and if it broke 300 mil on Friday, the fastest to 300 mil (15 days). It also had the greatest opening
day in history and the largest total day in history with 55.5 million.
All that is left is the 400 million mark and Shrek 2 holds the record for the fastest to that total
(43 days). If Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest could make it to 400 mil, and in less than 43 days....
That would be the best a film has ever done in the Box Office, not counting Titanic.
In my opinion, I hope the film makes it to 500 or 600 million. If it broke 450 million it would
be the #2 All Time highest gross and if it passed 601 million, it would be the highest.
Think about it. If it broke the record for the fastest to 100, 200, 300 and 400 million and
then got to 600 million, why that would be amazing!
Titanic was still a really good film, but it would be really neat to see another out of the blue movie
beat the highest grossing movie of all time. But I am getting ahead of myself here. Right now we will just watch
the picture zoom past 300 mil this weekend and see whether it can pull off another #1 weekend. It has some competition
so it will be interesting to see what will happen.
Lady In The Water is an M. Night Shymaylan film and he tends to do really well in the Box Office.
He's had hits such as Signs and The Sixth Sense so it will be interesting to see how he matches up to the movie that broke
3 records in 12 days. I see Lady In The Water with a small but nice gross of 30 mil this weekend, but I'm not sure what
Pirates will do.
